Welcome
Introduction
Hi, my name is Aric Thompson, and I'm a fourth year kinesiology student at Vancouver Island University. The goal of this e-portfolio is to showcase who I am, including my background, interests, academic work, education, experience, and the values and aspirations that guide me as I move forward in my career.

About Me.
I was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in the year 2000 and am the oldest of four brothers. My family moved often while I was growing up, and sports were one of my main ways to build connections in new places. I spent a lot of my childhood outdoors, being active, and playing sports. Throughout the years, I developed an interest in physical health due to my own minor injuries and interest in improving performance. My interest grew after my mom experienced two major leg injuries, and I helped her with her recovery exercises. This eventually led to my interest in pursuing kinesiology and physiotherapy. To me, the most impactful things I learn are the things I can directly implement to help improve people's quality of life. My goal is to work as a kinesiologist to get hands-on experience helping others make meaningful steps toward improving their health before returning for a master’s program. While I enjoy being active, I've always been an analytical person striving to be the best I can be, while valuing creativity and social connections, which I believe are among my greatest strengths.
Interests
Outside of academics, I stay active through a variety of physical activities. I love hiking and rock climbing with friends, while weightlifting helps me feel strong and practicing martial arts keeps me centered.
Hiking & Rock Climbing
I enjoy climbing and hiking because they let me spend time in nature while staying active and connected with my friends. Climbing also challenges me mentally, forcing me to problem-solve and think creatively when I'm not sure what's next.

Martial arts
Martial arts to me is amazing not just for the intense workout, but for the chess match it can be. It's taught me patience, discipline, and mental resilience while helping me connect with a wide range of people from different backgrounds.

Weightlifting
Weightlifting started as a way to compete against bigger opponents in martial arts, but it’s become my go to for staying active when life gets busy. I love how versatile it is and how it can be used in so many ways to improve health and strength
